How to use this calculator

This matched betting calculator turns the key numbers from your bookmaker and betting exchange into a clear staking plan. Add your back-bet stake and odds, then your lay odds and exchange commission, and it calculates the lay stake, liability and expected result for each outcome.

What it calculates

  • The lay stake needed to balance the bookmaker and exchange sides.
  • Your exchange liability: the funds required if the back bet wins.
  • A breakdown of what happens if the back bet wins or the lay bet wins.
  • Your estimated qualifying-bet loss or free-bet profit after exchange commission.
  • How the result changes when you alter stakes, odds or commission.

Before you start

  • Enter decimal odds only, for example 3.50.
  • Use the commission rate charged by your exchange, such as 2% or 5%. If laying on a bookie, keep commission at 0%.
  • Check the bookmaker’s offer terms before placing a bet.
  • Make sure you have enough exchange balance to cover the displayed liability.

01

Qualifying Bet

Use this for the first bet required to unlock an offer, such as “Bet £10, Get £10”. Enter the bookmaker stake and odds alongside the exchange lay odds and commission. The calculator finds the lay stake and liability required on your exchange bet.

02

Free Bet

Use this when converting a free bet or bonus into cash. Most of the time the free-bet stake is not returned so the calculator is set to this by defualt, but if the promotion does return the stake then select the stake-returned option in the 'Choose bet type' box for the correct lay stake.

03

Money Back

Use this for promotions that award a bonus or free bet after your bookmaker bet settles, for example "Get your stake back in free bets if your bet loses". Most of the time the offer will be stake back in free bets if your bet loses so the calculator has this set by default, but if if the promotion is stake back if bet wins then select 'Bet wins' from the 'Bonus given if' selector in the 'Bonus bet' section. Then add the bonus amount and its expected retention value; the retention value is the amount of the free bet you expect to get back as profit once you've arbed it. It's set as 100% by default, but typically free bets return around 60-80% profit if you arb them, depending on the bookmaker and available odds at the time.

A quick reminder

Odds move, stakes can be restricted and offer terms vary. Check every figure and the promotion conditions before submitting either bet. This calculator is an aid for planning matched bets, not a guarantee of profit.
